As womxn, our bodies go through natural changes as we move through the ageing process. Our skin gets stretched in different ways and we may gain weight in certain areas of our bodies. Despite how regular these changes are, society and social media have made many womxn and girls feel insecure about their bodies. It’s important to understand that these body conditions are normal and should not be regarded as flaws.
Continue reading to discover common changes womxn and girls experience with their perfectly normal bodies.
Hip Dips
Hip dips are inward curves that occur between your hips and your thighs. According to Women’s Health Magazine, hip dips are wholly typical and are part of your bone structure, which cannot be changed.
Within the last couple of years, hip dips have been searched millions of times by womxn looking for ways to get rid of them. There are hundreds of thousands of exercise videos available online that instruct ways in which hip dips can be “fixed.” While exercising your hips and thighs can reduce the look of hip dips, they will never completely go away.
Cellulite
Also known as “cottage cheese,” cellulite is common amongst womxn and girls. Cellulite is a fat deposit underneath the skin that causes dimpled-like skin on the surface. Given how the media has publicly shamed many celebrity womxn for having cellulite, it is no surprise that girls and womxn across the globe are quick to find ways to cover up their skin or seek treatment.
While exercise and skin treatments can help reduce the amount of cellulite, it can become costly and exhausting to get rid of your body’s natural changes.
Stretch Marks
While stretch marks commonly occur the most on pregnant womxn, womxn of all ages can develop stretch marks on their arms, breast, stomach, legs, hips, and butt. As we age, our skin stretches to adjust to our development, which allows for indented streaks, or stretch marks, to surface.
Stretch marks aren’t harmful to the body, but many find them unappealing and want to get rid of them. For some, the stretch marks may fade over time, but they tend to stay present on the skin for many.
Muffin Top
Also known as the “FUPA” (Fat Upper P**** Area), the muffin top occurs when a person’s body fat sits on top of the waistline of tight pants. Muffin tops can happen due to diet, stress, genetics, sleeping issues, or physical inactivity.
Exercise and an improved diet can help reduce the appearance of a muffin top, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with having one. Embrace your love handles!
Strawberry Legs
According to Medical News Today, strawberry legs are defined as legs with small black spots, which look like strawberry seeds. Strawberry legs occur when pores or hair follicles on the skin become clogged with dead oil, skin, and bacteria. The condition typically appears due to shaving methods and different skin conditions.
There are home remedies to help alleviate strawberry legs, but there is nothing wrong with them, and it is a commonality amongst womxn and men.
Self-Care Practices
Here are some ways in which you can practice self-love and embrace your body:
- Start journaling
- Create a list of your best qualities
- Host your own personal fashion show
- Take a nice, relaxing bubble bath
- Speak positive affirmations in the mirror each day
- Take a long walk

- Watch your favorite movie or TV show series
- Get your stretch marks tattooed with rainbow colors to embrace them
These five body conditions are entirely normal and are experienced by many girls and womxn around the world. Remember never to let society or social media make you feel flawed or insecure about your body. You and your body are beautiful, and no one can take that away from you!
