Feminist Theory

Where should you start with feminist theory?

What draws you to explore feminist theory?

I want to be able to put words to my feelings and experiences.

I know why we need feminism but don’t know where I stand on the action that we need to take. I want to explore the “what now?”.

I want to feel more connected to women and feminists around the world and across history.

I want to explore how feminism shapes and impacts other facets of my identity.

I want to be able to talk about feminist theory in a straight forward and accessible way with people that may never have engaged with the topic.

How would you describe your current understanding of feminist theory?

Beginner – I’m just starting my journey.

I understand the basics, but I’m eager to learn how it applies to real life.

I have a general understanding but want a more global perspective.

I’m interested in deep dives into specific themes and identities within feminism.

I’m familiar with feminist theory but want to challenge the misconceptions I encounter.

What motivates your interest in feminism?

A desire to understand gender equality.

An interest in the intersection of politics and personal identity.

A commitment to global solidarity and learning from diverse movements.

A focus on the nuanced ways identity shapes one’s experience of gender.

A need to clarify the truth behind common myths about feminism.

What is most important to you, on your feminist journey?

Being able to explain feminist concepts in every day conversations

Making my feminism more political and my politics more feminist

Knowing feminist history and the feminist thinkers that shaped the movement

Finding a place in the feminist movement where I feel seen and represented

Knowing how to respond when feminism is challenged or misrepresented

What confuses you the most about feminism?

People say that there are different ‘types’ of feminism, but don’t all feminists fight for the same thing?

I believe that feminism should be inclusive and intersectional, but I don’t really know what that means or what that looks like in practice.

There is so much history and conflict surrounding feminism – it’s hard to know where the movement came from.

I think feminist solidarity and gender equality are really important to me, but on a personal level, I’m not sure how feminism fits with my identity.

I don’t identify as a woman but I support feminist values. Can I still call myself a feminist?
